Raymond E. Mayes was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church under the hand of Bishop William P. DeVeaux; and, ordained as an Itinerant Deacon by Bishop Frank C. Cummings. He has earned a Master of Divinity in Sociology of Religion from Turner Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Benedict College. He is a graduate of Ensley High School located in Birmingham Alabama. He has developed comprehensive ministry models that synergize worship and competent administration, which led to membership re-engagement and church growth. ev. Mayes serves as the pastor of Nichols Temple AME Church, of the Ensley community in Birmingham Alabama. He has served in the 6th Episcopal District (Georgia), and the 9th District (Alabama). He was the youth minister for Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, under the esteem leadership at that time the Rev. [Bishop] James L. Davis. Also, Rev. Mayes has earned the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification, a globally recognized and demanded certification from the Project Management Institute. He has served as Tax Examiner for the IRS, Director of Global Workforce and Community Service for Morris Brown College, an agent for Northwestern Mutual Life specializing in deferred compensations, a Senior Research Analyst (DOD Contracting) for Metters’ Industries, and as a legislative aide to United States Senators Edward Kennedy and Ernest Hollings. The Rev. Raymond E. Mayes is the youngest son of Mrs. Betty J. Mayes and the late Rev. Willie L. Mayes. He is married to Michelle Mayes. The Rev. and Mrs. Mayes are the parents of two daughters Chari Adanna and Maya Elizabeth.
